Popular pocket knife manufacturer Victorinox, has come up with their latest gadget in their army of attachments and doo-dads that you can get sandwiched into their signature red package: a super secure self-destructing USB drive! Now along with your pocket saw, magnifying glass and fish hook remover, you can have the most up-to-date security available in portable data technology, called the Victorinox Secure.Available in sizes from 8 to 32GB, and priced from $75 to $270, the drive features fingerprint ID, a thermal sensor and the aforementioned self-destruct mechanism.
Victorinox says the Secure is “the most secure [device] of its kind available to the public.” The Secure features a fingerprint scanner and a thermal sensor “so that the finger alone, detached from the body, will still not give access to the memory stick’s contents.”Victorinox offers no explanation how [the self-destruct mechanism] works, only saying that if someone tries to forcibly open the memory stick it triggers a self-destruct mechanism that “irrevocably burns [the Secure's] CPU and memory chip.”
Of course, it also comes with your standard Swiss Army knife accessories, like a key ring, scissors, nail file and assortment of screwdrivers. It’s a shame Peter Graves didn’t live long enough to own one of these. Maybe Tom Cruise will make another movie just so he can feature it…
